It is the Utaki where Samegawa Ufunushi, the grandfather of Sho-Hashi, who unified the three Kingdoms (Northern, Central, and Southern Kingdoms) into one centralized Ryukyu Kingdom, is buried. It has been relocated to the current site. Besides Ibi-Utak

The site has a strong tie with Sho-Hashi who unified the three Kingdoms. His grandfather, Samegawa Ufunushi, was moved from Iheya Island to Sashiki and buried at this Baten-Utaki. Two sacred sites: “Uebaten-Utaki” and “Shimobaten-Utaki” were located at the site before. The holy name of the “Uebaten-Utaki” is “Samega-Ufunushi-Taketsukasano-Uibe.” It is said that Samegawa Ufunushi set up a hut at the site and spent his life in fishing. The holy name of “Shimobaten-Utaki” is “Kohatsukasano-Uibe”, the place where a son of Samegawa Ufunushi, “Nashiru Ufuya” (later named “Sho Shisho”, who is the father of Sho Hashi) is said to be born. Besides Ibi-Utaki, six other “Haisho” are also located. This is the one of the sacred sites of Pilgrimage due to its strong ties with the Ryukyu Kingdom. People also visit this place to pray for gratitude for the water used by ancestor.
