It is a sacred spring where water for “Agari-umai” and “Ubinadi” was drawn. It is also said that an Angel descended on the Udun-Yama used the water for her baby’s first bath. Currently it has become a nice gathering spot for people.

It is the place where the ritual ceremony, “Ubinadi”, was performed to gain the spiritual power during Kikoe-Okimi’s “Oaraori.” According to the “Ryukyukoku Yuraiki”, Angel descended on Udun-Yama used the spring water for her baby’s first bath. Old folk tale in Yonabaru also says that the King used the spring water for purification after he viewed the first sun rise on the New Year’s Day at Kohama, Yonabaru. While it was the sacred place with a strong connection with Royal Court, it used to play an important role for residents in Yonabaru to supply water for everyday life and for the ritual ceremony for purification for the first water of the New Year and for a person’s first bath. Currently, a place for prayer was built at the site where the well used to be located, and the area has become people’s gathering spot called Uega Square surrounded by banyan trees and deigo trees. It is also a key spot to hold Yonabaru’s famous traditional event, Giant Tug-of-War.
