Two springs with bountiful water and holy rice fields in the forest. It is the legendary place where rice farming originally started, and even now, a special ceremony takes place to offer appreciation to the God at this site.

Two springs possessing a bounty of water in the thick forest are located near the beach at Hyakuna. A rice field called “Mifuda” is located next to the west spring, “Ukinju”, with slow stream; another rice field called “Ueda” is located in front of the east spring,”Hainju”, with fast stream. These are the legendary places for the start of rice farming. The ritual ceremony called “Uedanu Ugan”passed down from the ancient time at Nakandakari District is to offer an appreciation to the God. After planting rice at a rice paddy next to “Ukinju/Hainju”, people conducted the ritual ceremony at the space called “Uyuemo”; and all participants enjoyed a feast that concluded the ceremony. The ceremony is designated as city’s intangible folk cultural heritage, and people hold the ceremony on the first Day of the Ox every year based on the lunar calendar.
